Here is the product description for those of you who have not managed to hear about this great product....

The 4GB HD uses ultra-reliable Micro-Drive technology to provide PSP owners with massive storage capacity on their PS portables.

Included in the pack is the proven double capacity X-2 battery which combines with the hard drive to allow the PSP to realise its potential as a true multi-media platform portable.

Datel's hugely popular Max Media Manager software completes the package by providing users with a powerful yet easy to use PC application for managing all media content on their PSP's new hard drive. This software even makes the process of transcoding video content into the PSP's native AVS or MPEG4 a cinch.

When used in conjunction with the X-2 double capacity battery the 4GB HD forms an ergonomic extension to the PSP which follows the neat lines of this handheld console, fitting snugly into your palms.

Has anyone actually ran any isos from this little beauty yet very interested to hear if the games run smooth off this considering data transfer times were a lot longer

I'm sorry.. But LikSang already states the HDD is super slow compared to a memory stick..

The only benefit is that it's faster than a UMD, but what isn't? LOL.. Plus it's got the space if you can stand the longer transfer times and loadtimes..

Pre-Order Your 4GB PSP HDD Now!

no thanks! :)

i'd rather just buy the adapter without the drive
or better yet just a memory stick
so i'll wait.

225 quid?

You're kidding me...

I can get two 2-gig memory sticks for less, and not powering the HD will likely outweigh the strain the HD would put on the PSP with the new battery.

Plus, it doesn't double the size of my PSP, so I can still fit it into my pocket...

It actually costs 128 GBP when converted to 'quid'. You could possibly get two 1gb sticks for this price should you be a really good bargain hunter, bare in mind this is 4GB and with of course the x2 battery. :D

to me this is a good thing ere in uk 2GB ms cost around £140 to £160 x 2 at best £280.

Datel 4GB Hard Drive £149 and some pennies
battery £25
micro drive £110
cf adaptor because thats wot it is £15

as to speed this is half as slow as a ms stick
but thay don't say if thay used 1GB ms or 2GB ms
1GB stick are faster then there 2GB ms counterparts

cf card 2GB about £110.95 not the best price update Kingston £68.99
micro drive 4GB around £110 deal on some places £80

with a few mods ere and there this could be a multi card....ie 2x4gb switchable. So i think this is cost affective solution

also remember cf card are faster and 4gb would cost £219.95
update eXpansys Memory 4GB Compact Flash Card £176.95
even better Kingston 4GB Elite Pro Compact Flash Card £131.99

It is only 2x battery life when you DONT use the HDD. A bit of clever advertising to sell the THING!

As posted by jpnn80

One more major drawback of this HDD is shown by lik-sang as its page was just updated with its test result on battery life:

• Playing movie with Standard Battery and SanDisk 1G Memory Stick: 4.45 Hours.
• Playing movie with Datel X2 Battery and Datel 4GB Hard Drive: 5.45 Hours.

1gb ms is faster than the 2gb ms so it would be fair to say that when a 4gb ms comes out than this will be slower so to compare a 1gb ms to a 4gb micro drive would not be a fair comparison

I bought one of these the other day. I am very pleased with it apart from the speed of loading times and battery life :(

I'm going to wait until Compact Flash cards come down in price and buy a SanDisk 8GB one and put it in it instead of the Hard Drive. This will solve the loading times and the battery life :D ;)
