hi here is a tut and software so you can all
back up your 360 games ready for the FW hack

it easy all you have to do is

2. Open WxRipper
3. Click Hotswap/Find Magic number
4. Click Hotswap/Stop Drive
5. Use the emergency hole or the hotswap method to change the DVD with a Xbox 360 Game
6. Click Hotswap/Start Drive
7. Click File/Start Dump

This may sound dumb, but I have a question:
What good is copying games to your PC if you can't play them? What do you do with the backuped files once they are copied?

well alot of games are geting scrached so you could back them up before they do ready for the FW hack or you could have a mess about and hotswop the backup games in the 360 like i did just to see if it works and it works so this dos copy the full dump of the games

and for them haveing probs with the emergency hole you ent pushing the lid in enoth so when you have done the emergency hole to swap the dvd with the 360 game slam the lid shut then then click hotswap spin drive then file start dump and it should all be ok saves takeing the drive apart every time you copy a 360game

How do you burn them? Can this be done in Nero or are there any other special steps required for this? Does WXripper create an iso from the ripped data or do we have to create them ourselves?

WXripper will creat an iso and i use DVD DECRYPTER to put my iso to disc it works every time i have never had a prob with that just click on mode at the top and go down to iso and click on write and you are all set to burn your iso m8
Hey don't forget to give credit for Gael360 (for tools and 2nd layer dumping method) and me (for original (1st layer) dumping method).

tried this method on a pioneer A08 burner, eject trick and complete disassembly and it just locks up while reading. I stopped it as the program wasn't reading any more data and too much more I would need a new drive as it spun fast, then slow and moved the laser in and out of the disc.
Tried the same on a Lite-on DVD-ROM, just a cheap 16X drive and it reads up until the 2nd layer and locks the computer up.
Tried a hot swap with a standby/hibernate trick on an acer laptop too with no success. It automatically checks for the disc when it tries to be active after hibernation or after the eject hole is pressed.
The disc I was using read 7.8GB in windows, trying to back up ridge racer 6 and quake 4.
Tried a slot load drive, but soon after disassembling it I realized it dosen't do DVD's.

yes you would have to get your drive in your 360 FW hacked m8 i have tryed allsorts of ways to get a backup to play without the original disk like trying a original disk and swaping it with a different backup of another game just to see if you only need one original disk but it did not work you need the same original disk as the backup copy but it would of been good if it did cuz i was going to mod my 360 into a swap magic 360 like the ps2 if you know what i mean

Just a thought, once you rip the game then extract all the files with wx360,then can you maybe transfer them to the hd.Ive seen 2 things coming out to hook the 360hd to your pc.Kinda like how you can do on your xbox1.Is the defaultxex kinda like the defaultxbe. You now how you could file explore on modded xbox1 click the xbe and it would launch game.If you could put all the files in a folder file explore on the 360 launch defaultxex?

I struggled to get it working at first but figured it out. If it just keeps dumping the video.ts files to about 8mb, instead of pressing 'stop drive' just keep it spinning and then press the emergency hole, swap disks and then press spin drive. Works for me on 2 DVD drives.

well it has to be the exact copy of the game or it will not play so when you have copyd the game with WXripper open WX360 then click on file open then open the iso you just made with WXripper then click on file and Export XDVDFS that should make it a bit smaller but i have never tryed it that way and i still dont think it will fit on a dvd 5 m8 sorry it has to be the same copy or it just will not play i have tryed to exstact all the files with WX360 and mack it into a iso and put it to a dvd5 but it did not work cuz it has to be the same 1.1 copy of the game for it to play

no that would not work have you opend up an xbox360 and seen the connections on the back of the xbox360s dvd drive there not the same m8 and if you did manage to get some sort of converter so you could connect a normal xbox 1 dvd drive to it you would still have to flash that with some sort of FW hack to get it to play backups

it was the original 7.5gb dump cuz if you modified it its not going to work as i was doing at first i was copying fight night round 3 and exstractin the files with wx360 then it was only 3.28gb so it would fit on a dvd5 and then i used qwix to turn them files into a iso but every time i tryed to hotswap it it was not working but as soon as i put the 7.5gb onto a DL dvd the hotswap worked first time

They didn't even have dust on them much less scratches. It just won't work for either of my drives.. Not sure of the problem and since theres no need to waste DL discs yet, I will wait until the discs are completely scratched or the 360 offers a reason to bother figuring out the problem.
I will try it again though with my 108 Pioneer and Kameo, just to see what happens. The Liteon won't let me eject the disc, the tray activity light comes on and it locks up on me when i try to eject.. When I take it apart and hotswap that way it locks the computer up on me after it reads the first layer.

Umm, I pull the cog off my DVD motor thats holding the disc in place, pop in the 360 game, put the cog back on, then hit spin disc, then hit start dump.. it spins funny, grinds, spins funny, grinds - sounds like its loading up, then grinds, almost stops.. process repeats. Where did you determine I hit eject? I stated before my DVD Drive was in pieces, I cannot get the emergency eject hole trick to work nor the physical hot swapping.
Using Windows MCE system (all updates installed) with a pioneer A08 and a Lite-on 16X generic DVD-ROM.. Liteon freezes the system at the 2nd DVD layer (Laser stops reading disc, disc stops spinning, system unresponsive), A08 just will not even dump anything.
The disc I am using is 7.68GB reading in My Computer. Game I am trying to back up was ridge racer 6, Quake 4 and Kameo.. Most I got dumped of any is 3.7GB

Hmm, as for the price and hassle of that drive I think I would take my chances buying a Pioneer A110 drive for $50 at the local comp shop as it was reported on other sites these drives worked with the swap trick, where the A108 did not (as I can confirm - not even ripping it apart would cut it).
As for the LiteOn it just might have trouble with dual layer discs too, the drive itself is going on 5+ years old, and I could go for another burner as the 108 is getting on three years old, and would work great in my lil 30GB system.
I know your procedure does work, but it will not work for me with these drives.
Did anyone get a LiteOn DVD-ROM drive to work with reading both layers of the disc? I can't even eject the disc with the emergency eject hole - The HDD load light comes on. Go figure.

--------------------------
Hi there, I was getting the same error - Error @0 : Incorrect Function
This is how I fixed it. I think that this means that the swapped 360 disc has not been able to start spinning. I gather that when you pushed the tray back in you must have done it slow as I was doing the same thing. I then pushed it back in at a brisk pace, about the same speed as the drive normally goes back in, and I could hear the dvd click into place. Try pushing the tray quicker and maybe not pull the tray out as much when you swap.
Seems to work for me. Best of luck
Now I'm getting problems with an error that states ;
---------------------
Unhandled Exception has occurred in your application.
There is not enough space on the disc
--------------------------
I click continue and it's fine. I have over 20gb on the drive where the iso is being stored to. The ISO is made but it's only 4,194,112KB or 3.99GB. I can view the ISO, shows everything but i think it hasn't copied the full disc. Does anyone have any ideas. I'm gonna check the previous posts to see if anyone had the problem.
By the way the games i were trying was Ghost Recon and Perfect Dark. Both iso's were 3.99gb, so that tells me something is wrong. My DVD movie is 7.87gb (Opeth DVD)
Thanks.

Found out what the possible problem may be
Here's a quote from another forum regarding my previous post
---------------------------------
Why i get an error when my image gets 4,194,112 kb's. is it cuz im running a fat32 format on my hardrive.
Yes it is ! you need to use NTFS to store the ISO file.
---------------------------------------
so if anyone is having the problem this seems to be it. I was using a spare drive which was FAT32

Mine wouldn't work when i pressed the 'stop drive' button, so instead i just press the emergency hole while its spinning to eject. Yes it makes an awful sound but it doesnt damage the disks, ive done it with a few DVD's and they're fine. After ejecting the disk, put the game disk in and just slam the tray shut - dont press the tray button or it will fail, then press the 'spin disk' button and then dump the game.

First thanx to the creators of this amasing tools and thanks for the tutorial.
I tried the emergency hole swap on my laptop (Acer) and no go. So I tried the other method on an external drive and it worked on the first try.
which dvd size is more acurate the one dcrptr gives or the one you get by selecting drive-properties?
Reason I ask is because drive-properties gives me 7.74gb and dcrptr gives me 8.31gb? This is the dvd that i used with wxripper to do fnr3.

Yes it does. You have to merge your SS files first though. I personally prefer using this method. If your getting CRC errors(cyclic redundancy), try this:
Insert your DVD film(over 7.5gb)
Click 'find magic number' and save as 'gamedump'
Open 'gamedump' in notepad and you'll see a few lines starting like :
C
D
C
Change the first 3 to D's and then save it.
Open up in WXripper, swap your game disk and dump away.

hi here is a tut and software so you can all
back up your 360 games ready for the FW hack
or before your games get scrached
it easy all you have to do is
1. Insert a DVD movie which is over 7.5GB
2. Open WxRipper
3. Click Hotswap/Find Magic number
4. Click Hotswap/Stop Drive
5. Use the emergency hole or the hotswap method to change the DVD with a Xbox 360 Game
6. Click Hotswap/Start Drive
7. Click File/Start Dump
and thats it you have got a full dump of the 360 game
have fun
Ok, I get all the way to number 7. with no problems, but when it start dumping I get Error @ 0: Data error (cyclic redundancy check). I know my disc are not scratched in any way, and I've tried with all my original 360 games and still I'm getting the same error. Fight Night Round 3, Kameo, DOA 4 and Condemned. I'm using my Original Training Day DVD Movie which is 8,376,346,624 bytes or 7.80GB which should be large enough. The strange thing about it is that I can click on Explorer with Wx360 and view all the files plus I can extract all the file to my PC HDD, but it will not do a raw ISO dump of the games for some reason. Can anyone help me out here?

finally got it working on my 3rd drive!! Somehow i managed to screw up my liteon drive (tried dismantling, but the drive design was a basket to dismantle). Then tried on a memorax drive, kept getting CRC errors, even after trying babb_z's suggestion of entering D's in first 3 lines. Finally tried a NEC drive, was still receiving CRC errors but this time babb_z's fix worked.
Heard some of the tracks from burnout after extracting the files. Seems all good.
Any suggestions on what DVD-R DL discs to use?? are both -R and +R compatible? Which do u use soulplane?
thanks
PS. BTW, did anyone try applying an ss.bin file to the raw dump and did it work on ur hacked drive?

you need to patch the iso with the correct ss file and then burn.

Firstly hi all..:D
So basically if i use my pcdvd drive using wx ripper and make an exact raw image of my original, it will work without any other modifications and i can just burn the image as described in this thread:confused:
If this is the case I take it you only need the ss file if you use the xbox drive to rip the image:cool:

Nevermind, found this further into a thread by Gael360 :- "Try to click on 'Find magic number' BEFORE swapping the DVD."
----------------
I just asked this on another forum but I thought I would throw it out here out of interest.
Ive read Gael360's instructions on using wxripper and its said that the 'find magic number' is to be done on the xbox360 disc thats inserted after the swap, this being due to the layerbreak that needs to be found.
now on some threads ive seen many people say they pressed 'find the magic number' when the first dvd was in the drive before doing the hotswap. would using the magic number from the first dvd be cause problems with the burnt backup?
thanks to anyone that can explain, cheers

1. put in full movie dvd > 7,5 GB.
2. fire up wxRipper.
3. click on "stop drive".
4. change dvd with xbox360 game without using eject button on drive.
5. klick on "spin drive".
6. klick on "find magic number".
7. klick on "dump to iso"
easy as that.
before burning, patch it with the right ss.bin and it will work ;)
the mini tutorial posted before in this thread is wrong, you need to find magic number AFTER the xbox 360 game was inserted in the drive.

I already tried that method, with eject emergency hole..I use a dvd movie Final Fantasy Spirit Within Disc 1 (+8GB). I tried to back up PGR3.
And the action description:
Copy 0 19408 Done
Dummy 19408 1072 Done
Copy 20480 1783936 Done
Copy 129824 300608 .... --> When reach this part...the warning signal shown "The Wrong Volume is in the Drive. Please Insert volume FINAL_FANTASY_SCN into drive F:"
And the magic number is same for both dvd movie and PGR3 (300608).
Someone knows what kind of error is this?

wow, talk about digging up the past.
umm, its all pretty much in this thread. get wxripper (software for the PC) that will do a raw dump of the image. Since a normal PC drive cant read/dump the security sector files and a couple other sectors you will need to source these.
Or you could use the 360 ODD in a PC to also dump the image with the files.
Since the 2 months of the last post of this thread there have also been advances in software. You could use PC software called Xbox Backup Creator and Schtrom360Xtract which will allow you to use a special samsung PC drive to do easy backups.
In regards to full directions and links etc..... its too late for me to go through all that, maybe apply yourself and do some reading, i cant be bothered spoonfeeding details to someone which have been covered so many times before. The leg work is yours.

Secondly what do you mean when you say hotswap from dvd disc to xbox game ?

No soldering required to "hack" the 360 drive (unless you have a ms28 version Samsung).
To clear up the jargon you are going to have to read more, maybe try the tutorials that are around that explain step by step everything you need to know. This will help.
No, there arent really a multitude of views on this subject. You will often find people doing the wrong method asking for help, then the help with the right method will usually follow.
The best part of coming in late into the "game" is that all the pit falls are usually covered by the time you start reading up on what you need to know. Its all here and up for grabs to anyone who wants to read it.
I hate to sound like a prick, but.... what you have asked for in this thread, is covered in this thread. I've given you the names of a couple of programs that you will most probably eventually use for your backups. A search of this forum, any other 360 hacking forum or google will most probably give you what you want.
Its all fair enough asking someone to document for you everything you need to know so late in this thread but the last question you asked is talked about on the first page, first post even. I'd rather spend the time helping someone who needs it, instead of someone who just wants it.
Good luck, I'd recommend starting on the thread called "Xbox 360 Tutorials & Guides".... and then downloading the pdf..... openning it. reading it a couple times...... you get the drift.

Hey guys, i have a good question about the method being used here. I would like to understand the idea behind this method being used to backup the game. "find the magic number" seems to me like when you put the original game, it doesn't take you to the starting sector that you would like to go to begin the backing up. Is this true? or am i mistaken? i'm just trying to grasp the idea as to why we need a movie to start us off, with some offset that is required to create the iso image. What format are the originals in? what "partition" can someone explain or elaborate on that? this way we can determine a way to back these games up? any detailed breakdown of anyone's discoveries would be much appreciated. thx :)

hi and thanks for the reply. sorry about the last post i should have went into more detail!! my 360 is already flashed to play back ups. my problem is making a back up of the original game it self. here is what i have done.
i ripped the raw data to my pc using wxripper and the file shows as winrar file. when you open this there is video and audio folders which you would find on a normal dvd. (no iso is showing but when i search for iso in clonecd, dvd decrypter or nero it loads fine. i then load up ss merger, load my iso then hit detect. after this i get an error message about connection to the data base or summit.
is there a way to make backups without using ss merger or without connecting your 360 to your pc?
again sorry to sound like a thicko but all the tuts are doing this different ways with different software. (my head is up my arse!!!!)

Ok so I got the .Net situation resolved, but to my dismay it seemed to work fine. Now when I look at the iso it says its like 9,000 kb or something like that. Even in its compressed form that seems uncannily small and I can not believe that it entirely copied the game in a matter of a minute. Yet at the same time I cannot think I am wrong considering that it matches the referred vid-tutorials numbers exactly. Someone mind elaborating>?

EDIT: I talked to a couple people and they suggested that possibly the comp. is not seeing everything that was really ripped and so does not include it in the size reading. Even so the issue of time seems a problem.
