View Full Version : Method found to Dump Wii Discs - Takes FIFTY HOURS!

Zeus

A method for copying Wii discs has been found via the use of LG-8164b or LG-8163b DVD-ROM drives. Via running an app called DVDInfo, read access to the disc is collected and via the use of some rawdump access a Wii disc can be backed up in as little as FIFTY hours :).

According to guy from wiinewz there is a way to dump faster but they are not releasing into yet.

Well at least it's been done. Things seem to be moving along quite nicley for the Wii owners, though I still can't seem to decide wich next gen console to get.

As far as I know you just have to disable some kind of check in your DVD Drive Firmware and then you can rip the Wii disc and unscramble it with unscrambler 0.4: ( out of code/readme -> unscramble not standard IVs scrambled DVDs thru bruteforce, intended for Gamecube/WII Optical Disks. )

No need for some kind of long run degub code dump method, imo :D

What "check" is that? This is the same method that was used by the guys who made the unscrambler software so if you know a faster way then please let us know.

Does that mean the backed up copy of the game can then be played on the Wii?

No I think without hardware modification it wont be possible but the wii is similar to the gc and the drive key has also been extracted it was the same key as on the gc drive but in lower case lol

Nop , this mean that u can make a raw dump of your original games ! But there isn't any chip or any "whatsoever way" to run copys of originals.

Well dunno why but i'm not doing any updates from Wii Network  .

things are going damm fast for Wii Scene ... WOW !! I Want to play backups ;) Just love this Console !!

This is good i guess, will you ever be able to play like wii iso's on the wii? i mean since the wii don't have a hdd how can this be done!? i know the wii can have memsticks and so but you know having the iso's on memstics don't seem like a clever idea to me, maybe some great team will build a hdd to it

heh - My guess is that the authors will make 2-3 updates to the program BEFORE anyone finishes ripping a game.

50+ hours seems a bit off. My LG-drive is identified as a "DVDRAM GSA-4160" and dumps about 10 megabytes in 20 seconds.

9000 (9 gigabytes) / 10 mbytes * 20 seconds = 18000 seconds = 300 minutes = 5 hours

I tried to dump a complete disc, but the programm crashes every once in a while. :( The most I got in one session was 470 megabytes.

My other drive a "DVD-ROM GDR8162" is much slower. I am no expert but my guess is, it is because of the buffer size (2048KB compared to 256KB).

Are you sure? Because I don't think it should work with your drive, let alone go that fast. Chances are you're getting junk - do me a favour, open DVDInfoPro, select the right drive, and let it run in the background (or you'll get junk either way), then dump the first little bit of a Wii disc, open it in a hex editor, and see if you can see a 4 letter code (serial) in plain ASCII on the first couple of lines, then I'll believe you.

Well i just tried it again, this time without a disc in the drive. It still read the 'dvd'. It's a useless program.

All of you people using non-supported drives are probably dumping nothing but garbage. Just because it says it's dumping doesn't mean you are getting the real data off the disc. The program uses the debug commands in these specific drives.

Hence my post a little bit further up the page.

Honestly, if you don't have a Hitachi/LG drive (or one with Hitachi chipset) there is no point in even trying - your 'dump' will just be rubbish.

WHAT ?!?! Are u joking with me ? Go be a pain in the ass with somebody else !!

That shity scene phrase doesnt set on me.

1 Wii 2.0 + 4 Wiimotes + 4 Nunchakus + Wii Sports + Zelda + Rayman + 3 x Wii Plays ( there isn't in portugal other wat to buy wiimotes ) + Red Steel.

So more than 650€ in this .... Get a life in Portugual the minimum wage it's 450€ SO IF I DONT HAVE MONEY TO BUY IT I AT LEAST GIVE A CHANCE AND IF THE GAME IS THAT GOOD I BUY IT!!OR AT LEAST I TRY !!

No problem. The recycle bin (and delete key) work fine for rubbish. On the other hand, if the dump happens to be useful....

My pioneer wasn't busy last night, and needed a little exercise (nothing to burn lately), so I let it tear into Tony Hawk. 3.7GB and couting of rubbish....

True,

BUT do u need this to life? What would u say if u work for 450€ a month and code a game in 2 years, and when its realeased..its 1 hours later in shitty p2p networks, it doesnt get sold and u maybe lose ur job. Myself as a programmer (not of games but software..) can think about a situation like this.
All i want to say is that there are 2 sides of the medal and u have to think about both not only about the things that are better for you. Most local software companys here died in the last years because of several reasons and on of it was the internet and the ewasy way to get copys, even dongle protected software gets copied most of the time.

I posted the NeC worked it didnt just rubish came out in the end

Sorry

The Mods right the only drive it works on is LG 81--

You can tell when its worked by these indications

1 Title in Rawdump says "SPorts Pack for REvoution" if you are backing up wii sports

2 Hex edit the .wod file and you will read eg Wii sports RSPP01 is header

3 The drive led flashes like its reading

Hope this helps

well i have been ripping for a day now 1.8g lol

I think we maybe able to do a swap trick to try back ups out?

The guy from wiinewz.com who leaked this app says that using any other drive than the LG or some Hitachi ones will only dump garbage. This is confirmed. He told me the dumping speed has been intentionally capped in these versions and maybe sometime they will release faster dumping tools.

Ok, to the people on the forum here that say the NEC-3520 works.. you are wrong!
I tried it but it doesnt even read the disc contents while dumping!
If you don't believe me let it rip for 2 mins then abort, open the .wod file with a hex editor, behold the crapness!
The mods on the forum say it only works with LG and Hitachi and maybe, just MAYBE some other drives.
The best thing you could do is just backup your games using a LG drive or just download the images off the net.
Btw if you live in holland and want to get the LG-8164B drive check www.computerland.nl it has the drive for 18€.
