Nice try guys, nice try. Team OMNi mailed us in regarding their supposed new Wii mod known as the WiiOMNi. Well we can declare it is a FAKE. It looks remarkably similar to the Xecuter 1.6 rebuild PCB AND the specs are so far fetched its just plain wrong. Why are we reporting on a FAKE mod? So no one gets ripped and has false hope in the future :).

Team OMNi Presents...

The WiiOmnii

Positives

- Wii and GC backups working
- Fully supports execution of unsigned code. (Wii homebrew and imports!!!)
- Upgradeable via dvd, and soon via memory card!
- Stealth
- Quick-solder
- Superb build quality

Negatives

- No negatives, this is the best chip on the market

We are working on several Wii apps as we speak (or type!). The first 2 mini apps should allow the extraction and execution of Wii virtual console titles direct from the SD card. We hope to be able to integrate all of this stuff into our own channel eventually. We accept that this will be a little way off, but our eventual aim is to have direct from web upgradability and auto upgrade of hackerapps. What we are hoping for is that someone picks up in a different direction and creates a media centre type app. We would be fully prepared to share the information we know about channel creation with anyone prepared to work on such a project.

I guess I'm an idiot, but what makes this a fake?

It is incredibly soon for a group to have come out with a solution that cracks the code encryption. On top of that such a solution will likely not be able to be quicksolder, as there are likely multiple points on various parts of the motherboard (not the DVD drive as other chips so far) that are too far apart for a quicksolder.

Also, anything that allows for unsigned code will likely Not be stealth by its very nature.

To have cracked so much so quickly would be a truly amazing feat indeed.

Like the others, I would love to be proven wrong, but I'm pretty sure I won't be.

jop it's fake.
But I would really like to be proven wrong. And after all it's Nintendo we are talking about. They had allready RSA-encryption on the DS and it didn't last very long there. ;)

It's obvious they are making fun of the CycloWiz by the burned up "easy solder" points in that pic. :D

Just some additional info, the chip that is being balanced on that PCB is an SRAM module. Pretty sure it doesn't do much but store data (volatile without a battery).
