Hi, chaps...

I have a old style PS2 (fat version) and an old 80gb hard drive lying around..

What connecter/ cable do I need to connect the hard drive to my PS2?

Also, I know 80gb is'nt a lot of space, but how many games do you recon I would fit on the hard drive?

Thanks in advance..

ASH

you need the standard PS2 network adapter.
It's kinda rare nowadays, but you should be able to find one.
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Playstation-2X-Network-Adaptor/dp/B000051QDD/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-2570561-3372843?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1174778121&sr=8-1

Once you get that, no other cabling should be needed.

Note that not all IDE hard drives are compatible, some (like some western digital drives) may not line up properly, and others are not always working. However, most do.

you would also need a way to access the hard drive. (HD Advance, hdloader, modchip, etc.).

A PS2 game can be any size (a CD or so to 2 DVD's), so it depends on the game, but if you figure it averages to about 2-3GB a game, you can do the math, I'm sure.

if your chips has dev 1 then you can boot free hdl of the memory card.
If you rebuild all your games you should fit 20-30 games on.

If your modchip doesn't have the ability to boot off a memory card, you can also get an ISO verison of HDLoader (I assume your modchip lets you boot a copied CD. There is also DVD ISO verisons of HDLoader, if your PS2 can no longer read CD's (some drives have problems with CD).

In other words, you shouldn't have to pay for HD Advance if you have a modchip.

I personally have a DMS4 Pro chip, so I go to the Toxic OS loader instead.

HDloader 0.8 I think is out
Theres patchers and ISOs around for this everywhere. You will need to get this one way or another.

If you have DEV modes, get execftp I think it is and FTP it over to your primary mem card (0 in the FTP manager) under the /boot/boot.elf file. If you select DEV1 mode it should load this elf file for you right away.

If you get the ISO version, make sure its patched to stop your DVD drive from spinning the disc unnecessarily. Just prevents unneeded wear.

good luck!
