Heres the tutorial by Icetoad from wii-ftw (www.wii-ftw.com)
please go onto there site a direct any questions you have to him, not me
In order to be able to emulate N64 titles using the Gamecube mode on your Wii, you will need the following:
1. Selfboot GCOS Multigame version (make-multiv2.exe)
2. GC-Tool Version 1.20 beta (Paradox release)
3. Nintendo 64 Emulator V2.0 (Experience release)
4. N64 roms (only a few will work unforunately, see below)
5. A hex editor (optional)
Step 1.
Open GC-Tool and open the .gcm file included with the N64 Emulator. Now, use the menu on the right side of GC-Tool to replace the file zelda2p.n64 with your rom file. When it asks you to change the filesize in the TOC, say No. Now you have a .gcm file with the chosen rom inserted into the emulator.
Step 2 (optional, but recommended)
Now you are going to want to edit the gcm image name to make it easier to choose the rom in GCOS. To do this, open your hex editor and choose the gcm file. Set the hex editor to ASCII mode and find the title of the image file. Now replace the default title with the name of your rom.
Step 3.
Once you have a collection of gcms with different roms inserted, you are ready to make a multigame boot disc. Move all your gcm files to the same directory as the make-multiv2.exe program. Open a dos command prompt and type the following in the same directory as the exe.
make-multiv2.exe output.gcm USA game1.gcm game2.gcm etc
Make sure to specify your region. Once the program has finished, you now have a GCOS multigame boot disc containing a number of different N64 bootable images. Burn this image using your favorite burner.
Note about compatible roms:
Since this uses the Zelda emulator contained on the Masterquest disc, only certain roms will function correctly after they are inserted.
Confirmed working by myself:
Mario 64 - perfect w/ save functionality
Mace: The Dark Ages - perfect
Star Soldier - perfect
Wave Race - perfect
Pilot Wings - some graphical glitches, save functionality
Duke Nukem 64 - perfect w/ save functionality
Star Fox 64 - perfect
Kirby 64 - no audio
Mario Kart 64 - some small graphics and sound glitches, save functionality
The following are games which have been mentioned on other sites as working, but which still gave me problems.
Banjo Kazooie - doesn't load
Blast Corps - doesn't load
NHL 99 - doesn't load
Body Harvest - doesn't load
International Superstar Soccer 98 - freezes when entering game
Hercules: The Legendary Journey - doesn't load
Apparently some of these need to be patched before they will work. I will explore this further in the future.

Has anyone got this to work on an NTSC console. The Experience version of the N64 emulator was a PAL release. I have tried numerous ways of putting this disc together with different injectors, trying different type roms (Little Endian, Big Endian, and byteswapped), and using the GC Tool method, and it doesn't work. The screen just goes green after running the game. Those of us running NTSC will probably have to use the Paradox release or the Jurai release (basically paradox release with a lot of padding) of this emulator.
Going to give it a shot tonight, all I really want to play is Mario64 and Mario Kart64.

I own an NTSC-U console, so yes...the experience release works.
I am wondering, if you just want Mario and Mario Kart, why bother testing all those other roms?

Hey Icetoad...
I haven't bothered with any other roms other than those two... but I can't get either one of them to work using your method. I am going to play around with it tonight again. Any suggestions will appreciated.

I have an NTSC-U console as well, and none of the games load up. Just a green screen when I pick it from the GCOS screen.what's the problem?

yea i have an ntsc-u console as well
load it up in GCOS till u see the roms
highlight one
hit start, then hit auto detect, i think it changes it to pal.

I remember hitting auto detect and it would just freeze. If I hit Y for NTSC it goes green. I haven't tried PAL. I'll see what happens.

It doesn't seem to matter what I chose on the video selection screen. I always get a green screen. Although if I press "A" it goes to a black screen.

The problems seems to stem from GCOS Multi Disc v3. I created the gcm images separately(no GCOS inserted, plain ol' Gamecube images) using Big Endian format (z64) roms using GC Tool 1.20 for the injection and burned them individually on discs . Then I used a seperate disc for GCOS Multi Game Version(older version, possibly first version where an ISO was provided) to boot the MultiGame utility and now it works. Can't say the emulation is perfect... there are sound glitches on both Mario 64 and Mario Kart... but it works, playable with saving feature.
emu_kidid... if you can get this thing working smoothly, that would be great.

Is there a way of extracting the different GCMs from a multigame iso that you make? Like, if you didnt keep the originals?

I found the version of the GCOS Multigame version I used to get this to work.
http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=52663
Keep in mind I just used the Bootable ISO's that is contained in this file, I didn't run make-multi.
Hopefully this will help emu_kidid to narrow down the problems.

This works perfectly fine for me. I used the latest version of make-multi. (v3) Compiled the games then ran it. I got the green screen when hitting auto-detect, ntsc, and pal60, but pal worked when I hit that and I have an ntsc console.

I was able to duplicate what both of you did and it does work for me as well... (it was probably fatigue that wasn't making me think clearly). But I want to ask if you both get sound glitches when playing Mario64.
I was able to make the paradox version work with Mario64 and it plays perfectly(or very near to it). Hardly any sound glitches... but the only draw back is that every time I have to save my progress, I have to wait a prolonged period of time. Could be a minute or so between saves... The Experience release does it instantly.
Curious to see what others are getting.

Use Tool64 to change the format of your ROM to Big Endian format (z64) and try again.

Can't say I have a list but the rule of thumb is that if the game is a Nintendo release (made and produced by nintendo, not just licensed), then it has a good chance or working at least to the pont where it could be playable. Some glitches might be present, but one can get around them.

So far, i have tried 5 N64 games. some are working, some with glitch (playable) and some just don't work.
Zelda: MM - Game play is fine, but it has problem with all Video or background video. i.e the beginning of the game is video, as it is not console generated graphics... instead of showing the mask seller, all i can see is a black screen with sound. press start will skip the video, and on to the game. there are few more occausion of this video issues while you play the game.
Zelda: OoT - Same exact problem, video/blackscreen at places.
Mario 64: Working almost prefect, slow down at places, but nothing major.
Banjo Tooie: not loading, freeze/stuck at the loading screen.
GoldenEye 007: not loading, again freeze/stuck at the loading screen.
NTSC Wii console - WiiKey
PAL N64emu from website (maybe NTSC N64emu will work better?)
GCOS v3 selfboot disk.
Anyways, is there a way to get a NTSC N64emu for NGC? cause the one posted on the website is clearly PAL version. Also i have the two game bonus disk from the Wind Waker, is there any way to extract its n64emu so that i can get a better compatability with my console? thanks.

Could we get a team of devs to work on this and make it better, if this was something in the psp scene it would have been working with 99% of games with full save support. (Wish the wii/gc scene had support like that. I would do it myself but i have NO idea).

Does the Nintendo 64 Emulator V2.0 (Experience release) play the same games as ZELDA OCARINA emulator?
the reason I ask is because the ZELDA OCARINA emulator produces 500mb GCM files while the Nintendo 64 Emulator V2.0 files are only 63mb

I wish there was a decent homebrew emulator about... It sucks having to resort to the N64 for Perfect Dark. If only it were on the Virtual Console...instant buy.

If this is the same type of emulation that was used on the Gamecube a while back, I can remember that Smash Bros did load but you couldn't see any of the combatants in-game. Also, Mischief Makers would work until the 2nd Level, then all of the polygons would turn black and it made it difficult to play after that point. I think the only other game I didn't try was F-Zero 64, but considering the graphic scheme is about the same as the other Nintendo 3-D titles (Zelda and Mario) it's possible that it could be compatible with this emu.

After some testing- these are my results. The experience v2 n64 emulator did not work on my wii no matter what- selecting automatic caused it to freeze, ntsc gave me a green screen. pal gave me black (maybe the game was running but i didn't see anything and didn't wait long enough to see if there was sound. My wii is updated to the latest 3.0U. To bad for me, since it seems to kil gc compatability. Oh well. Streaming it to the gamecube with majoras mask made the initial save in seconds and booted quicky versus the 15-20 minutes it takes to create an inital save and boot from the other versions (masterquest/collector's edition).
For saving roms must be in z64 format. You can inject them into the gcm images using GC-Tool, or you can load them in phoenix loader 2.50 and copy the hidden n64.iso file it creates when you click load. Starfox and Mario 64 both save using this method but must be in z64 format to do so. After testing the experience loader i'm envious , Mario and Starfox save relatively quick, but not anywhere as quick as the experience v2. Wave race and mario kart will not save. If you want save support, i haven't tested it on expv2 but i'm sure it works, those games loaded on everything.(besides PAL). I did test mario 64 and might have tested wave race on the USA Zelda collector's edition disk. I extracted the Majora_Eng and Zelda_Eng tgc and converted them using tgc to gcm converter tool. Files are bigger- 489MB but those small files aren't good for the wii's laser anyway. I tried using a wii/gc region converting app, but it didn't give me a reassuring confirmation it had done the job and i still got the green screen no matter what, so if anyone knows how to patch the experience n64 emulator v2 to ntsc or create a counterpart in ntsc please share. I've been experimenting with these roms to figure out what works and what doesn't. This was motivated by a desire to compare the vc version of paper mario with the original running on the gamecube n64 emu.
Despite someone veryfying it as working, i fail to see how. No injector's work (it's too large) and while it does at least succesfully create a 21 block save file, it never loads. If someone has a patch please share. Other forums i've found talk about ips patches that fix loading issues, but i've never found any. Most of those sites are probably long gone. Anyway hoping some life comes into this thread. If anyone knows a good gcm region patcher, please let me know That's it for now. If i make any progress i guess i may post if it doesn't look like i'm the only one that cares. Later

Here's a couple of gcm region changers you might have but then again....(with wii regionfree you have to change the gcm file extension to .iso for it to read it)
I'm amazed no one has configured this emu properly for you NTSC guys as it works a treat on PAL systems but having read through the thread again I'm sure there are a couple of NTSC users who have got it working?

thank you for responding quicly. However these are the tools i've been using. I still get the green screen. I was hoping someone might know another that specializes in gamecube images. I'm thinking the output is encoded in the emulator itself, or something else is going on. I worked perfectly streaming to a gamecube, so i'm thinking having firmware 3.0 (which killed freeloader) is the main problem. The other is that i don't know how to get the emulator to output ntsc, or rebuild a counterpart in ntsc. Does anyone know if it's based of the masterquest or collector's edition? It seems to have been edited anyway. Which there was just a file or two that needed replacing. I'd rebuild with gcic. (Tried that too).
Thanks anyway.
