    Talking YLOD Fix

Okay I got the Yellow Light Of Death back in October 08 and I found this guide in the internet that helped me fix it. Now my PS3 running even cooler than before and it's running for about 5 hours everyday and the YLOD hasn't came back

Gilksy is the guy who wrote the guide and he also helped me with some stuff I had trouble with.

Here are the videos that Gilksy made:

    Part 1

    Part 2

    Part 3

    Part 4

    Part 5

I still don't know what you suppose to do with the heat gun? Make a hole of the burn mark or just heat it up something?

    Its fixed

thank you Sydmour for posting that link. My ps3 is working again after 3 weeks of ylod. Its funny, I didn't have a heat gun so I used a hair dryer too. When I turned the ps3 back on it stayed on for about a minute then back to ylod. So I knew I didn't get it as hot as I needed too. So after a day of trying to find a heat gun with no sucsess. I used two hair dryers. No go. so I preheated my oven up to 400, and removed all plastic and wires from the mother board. Before I put it in I shut off the oven, and left the door open for a few seconds. I threw it in on a cake pan, and let it bake for less than a minute, untill it was very warm to the touch. I let it cool and slapped it back to gether, and now its running like a champ. So my guess is that my ps3 just needed to get baked lol.

FU sony. You betrayed me, and left me in the dicth to fend for myself. So now you won't get anymore of my cash.

You are supposed to heat the CPU (see attachments). Make sure you heat it using a circular motion and that there is no thermal compound left on the CPU. Also it's very important to have the motherboard in a completely flat surface, otherwise in won't work. That's what happened to me the surface wasn't completely flat and the reflow didn't work. Let me know if you have any more questions, I will gladly assist you.

Yeah mine too, so I decided turn it horizontal so the YLOD doesn't come back

I've always changed the Thermal paste on my consoles once there warranties expired I find the best to use is this stuff...
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/125310...roduct_reviews

I have yet to use this on my PS3 or 360 but work great on the Nintendo Wii, PS2, Xbox and the Gamecube, I used to use a OCZ version but the new version I've posted a link to is the same but can be applied better.
My Elite is about to run out so as soon as it RROD on me I’ll try fixing it using this paste lol.

What is the exact effect of this? I don't really get it. Some sort of recalibration? Or resoldering?

Reading the guide posted there's some burn-in on the processor plates and a deeper burn-in above it (what are those chips making contact with the case plates guys?) at a guess id say the older warmer chips overheated and cracked the solder connections/ballgrid, you could compare this to the reheat/heatgun method used after a 360s heatclamp to 'reflow' the solder.

It may be wiser just to have the machine reballed by a pro. Looking at the dust inside that thing its about time consoles should be designed for easy cleaning including fan removal or the warranty sticker was put below the outer casing somehow.
The early models don't have 'cleaning mode' considering mine folds all the time its not in use i dread to think how dusty its gotten in there.

What if your ylod is due to a faulty power supply and not because the solder balls?? hmmm what then??
